Most telco infra in Mindanao intact and functioning after strong quake—DICT

Jun 08,2026
Following a powerful 7.8-magnitude earthquake in Mindanao, the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) reported that most telecommunications infrastructure remains stable and operational. While localized service disruptions have occurred primarily due to commercial power outages and cable cuts, major telcos like Globe, PLDT, Smart, Converge, and DITO are utilizing battery backups and mobilizing restoration teams. To support emergency communications and rescue efforts, the DICT is also coordinating the deployment of satellite internet hardware, including Starlink units, to hard-hit areas such as General Santos City and Sarangani Province.
